Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?
I chose Missouri State University-West Plains because, after touring several other schools, I felt most comfortable and had a sense of “being at home” when I toured this campus. The school offered all of the classes I would find at a large school but in a smaller setting, which helped me feel more comfortable and less overwhelmed.
How would you describe your experience here?
This university has allowed me to become more independent by moving away from home. I have been able to stay busy through all the clubs and organizations I am involved in. Missouri State University-West Plains has helped me grow and figure out who I am and what I want to do with my life.
What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?
My favorite thing about Missouri State University-West Plains would have to be all the activities that are offered to keep me busy. From the BCM mud bowl to Welcome Week activities and Student Government Association meetings throughout the week, I’m always doing something.
What has been your favorite course?
My favorite course so far would have to be COM 115 (public speaking) with Dr. Gary Phillips. He made the course fun and exciting all while we were learning key skills of public speaking.
How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?
The faculty and staff have helped me in tremendous ways. The faculty and staff are great at helping with questions. They are always willing to help me with problems, anything from scheduling to life problems. They are also great at helping me with my schedule to make sure I graduate on time and get my degree.
How did you choose your major?
I was FFA president for my high school chapter, and I was involved in the Agriculture Sales contest team. I competed in many different contests and began to fall in love with sales. I decided to pursue my passion with agriculture and sales by going to school and making that my full time job. That is how I chose my major, and I still plan to follow that plan!
What have you learned from agriculture department that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?
Through the agriculture department I have learned many things that will help me in my education, career and life. I have learned how to be a stronger leader, what my interests are and how to plan my future goals. Through experience and classroom assignments, I have become a stronger leader. This department has helped me determine what interests me most in the agriculture field so I can concentrate my efforts in the right direction to see my goals through to fruition.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to transfer to Missouri State University-Springfield to earn a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Business with an emphasis in Sales and Marketing. After graduation, I have a few different directions I am considering, something in the financial world or even an ag sales representative with an agriculture company.
