Academic Program: Associate of Science in Agriculture-Business

Hometown: Thayer, MO

“When choosing a college, I was worried about finding a place that would feel like home. I can say that I have found that place at Missouri State University-West Plains.”

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?

I chose to attend Missouri State University-West Plains because I knew I would receive a very useful education while being able to use my A+ scholarship.

How would you describe your experience here?

I love it! When choosing a college, I was worried about finding a place that would feel like home. I can say that I have found that place at Missouri State University-West Plains. Everyone at this college wants you to succeed and to be engaged on campus; the opportunities here are endless.

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?

My favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains is the atmosphere throughout the campus. Walking on campus for the first time, I was very nervous. Within my first week I had already met so many teachers, staff and students who were willing to help me succeed. From countless clubs and organizations to all of the activities on campus, it has been so much fun to be a part of the atmosphere on campus.

What has been your favorite course?

My favorite class has been my Fundamentals of Chemistry lab. It has been fun to use everything that we have learned.

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?

The faculty and staff have been great, from helping me pick classes to staying after class to explain something. They are always willing to help a student succeed.

How did you choose your major?

Growing up I have always been a part of agriculture. I was raised on a farm, and my family is part of an agriculture business. However, it wasn’t until my time in FFA that I decided I wanted to continue the tradition. Showing cattle and being a part of my school’s farm, management team made me want to follow a path in agriculture business.

What have you learned from the Student Ambassador Program that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?

Through the Student Ambassador Program, I have learned many things that will help me in my life, career and education. From time management skills, to learning about leadership and being outgoing, this program has helped me to find my place. Learning to be able to talk anyone has really helped me to grow as a person and as a leader.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation from Missouri State University-West Plains, I plan to either go directly into the workforce working for an agriculture-based business or transfer to Missouri State University-Springfield to obtain my bachelor’s degree in agriculture business.
