Academic Program: Associate of Science in Agriculture
Hometown? Salem, MO
Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?
I loved the small-town feel that West Plains gave me. I liked that class sizes were small so that I would get the chance to communicate with everyone. Not being too far away from home was also a plus! Additionally, MSU-WP is one of the few universities that accepts A+, so it seemed like a great option for me!
How would you describe your experience here?
My experience here at MSU-WP has been great! Not only are the faculty and staff extremely friendly, but they want to see you excel and succeed. There are several different clubs to become involved in, and the opportunities really are endless if you apply yourself!
What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?
Choosing just one “favorite thing” for me is hard to do, because there is so much on this small campus! I love being able to be involved in the clubs that interest me and help me grow, such as the Student Ambassador program, the Student Government Association, and Ag Club!

The faculty and staff want you to succeed, and they are always more than happy to help with whatever questions you may have.
How did you choose your major?
I was heavily involved in FFA while in high school. This quickly led to my decision of studying in the agricultural field. When I got to MSU-WP, Dr. Risner was more than happy to help me get all of my courses lined out to excel in the appropriate major for me.
What have you learned from agriculture department that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?
The Ag department is always furthering my knowledge and helping me be involved. With the help of the Ag department, I am able to network through community service events, competitions or even just similar interests! By being able to create these connections, I have met with people who can help me succeed with my education, career and life in general.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduating with my associate’s in agriculture from MSU-WP, I plan on transferring to MSU in Springfield to obtain a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business.
