“My favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains is the people.”

Academic Program: Associate of Science in Nursing

Hometown: Marshfield, MO

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?

I chose Missouri State-West Plains because of the atmosphere. Everyone here is so nice and welcoming 24/7. I love the class sizes and how they allow you to get to know both your classmates and professor a lot more.

How would you describe your experience here?

I have absolutely loved being a student here. Not a day has gone by where I dread to go to class or hang out around campus.

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?

My favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains is the people. Everyone I have met has been so kind and helpful with anything I have needed.

What has been your favorite course?

My favorite course here so far has been human anatomy. My professor does a great job at explaining things and is always open to any questions, no matter how small or big. He also does a great job at lightening the environment by making silly jokes throughout class, which helps with stress.

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?

The faculty and staff here are more than open to answer any questions. It seems like whenever I have a question someone always has the answer.

How did you choose your major?

I have wanted to be a nurse for a while now. I am a firefighter and certified first responder on the fire department in Marshfield. This has played a huge role in pushing me to wanting to become a nurse. I have always loved to help people any way possible, and helping the sick and/or hurting makes me feel like I am really making a difference.

What have you learned from your classes that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?

I have learned that you really have to pay attention to the small details and notes in class. A lot of times those little side comments are things on the tests that a lot of students do not know the answer to because they did not think it was important.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to transfer to the University of Alabama to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After that, I plan to work for a little while as an ER nurse and then maybe one day go back to school to be either a NP (nurse practitioner) or a PA (physician assistant).
