“I have learned to never give up no matter how old you are.”

Academic Program: Associate of Applied Science in Child and Family Development

Hometown: Searcy, Ark.

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?

I chose to attend MSU-WP because of the affordable tuition, small campus, friendliness of the staff, personal/professional relationships with the instructors, and it’s closer to my grandparents.

How would you describe your experience here?

I would describe my experience at MSU-WP as welcoming. It has a home-like feel to it. Everyone has gone out of their way to be helpful and connect me to the right people regarding my program, and I, for the first time in years, feel like I will finally pass my math class with Mr. Jerry Trick.

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?

My favorite thing about MSU-WP is how small and personal it feels when it comes to your peers and your instructors. Dr. (Renee) Keith has always gone out of her way to help her students. I feel that she actually cares and pushes us to be successful in the best way possible.

What has been your favorite course?

CFD 255 (Principles of Development in Infancy) is currently my favorite course. I enjoy doing observation hours and volunteering in the community, which this class encourages you to do.

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?

Everyone has gone above and beyond to help me with financial aid, scheduling the courses I need, finding volunteer opportunities, and filling out certain paperwork. I have received help from the math department, financial aid office, dean of student services, Dr. Keith, and the Math Lab.

How did you choose your major?

I love working with youth, families and children so the child and family development program was right up my alley.

What have you learned from the Child and Family Development Department that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?

I have learned to never give up no matter how old you are, to always have a positive attitude, believe in yourself and speak life into yourself and not death.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to become a children’s service worker, teacher or counselor.
