“My favorite things about Missouri State-West Plains are the small, personal classes and the tutors at the tutoring center.”

Academic Program: Elementary Education

Hometown: Koshkonong, Mo.

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?

It was close by and I like how small the campus is.

How would you describe your experience here?

My experience at Missouri State-West Plains has been amazing. All of the instructors I have had have been so helpful and willing to work with the students, the administration is always quick to help with anything they can, and I have made some fantastic friends.

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?

My favorite things about Missouri State-West Plains are the small, personal classes and the tutors at the tutoring center. They are super helpful and got me through my math course!

What has been your favorite course?

I have two favorite courses so far, Biology and English 110. I have always been interested in anatomy, and I love to write thesis papers because even if it’s a paper on something I am familiar with, I always learn something new.

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?

The faculty and staff have helped me more than I can say. I want to take this spot to especially thank Thora Broyles, Mary Kellum, Dr. Angela Totty, Cindy Bridges, Mycroft Holmes and Corey Neal. I can say first hand that the staff here care about the students, and I am grateful to all of them.

How did you choose your major?

Ever since my freshman year in high school I’ve wanted to be a teacher. My English teacher, Mrs. Phipps, was the one who got me interested in becoming an English teacher, but as I got older and began noticing things that were wrong with the school system, I decided that I wanted to be an administrator instead and try to fix it.

What have you learned at Missouri State-West Plains that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?

This semester I joined the Student Activities Committee through the Student Government Association. Being a part of this committee has taught me both leadership and teamwork skills that I know I will need in my career as an educator.

What are your plans after graduation?

After I get my associate degree in the fall 2020, I will pursue my bachelor’s degree through the Missouri State Outreach Program here. After that, I plan to attend University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland to obtain my masters and PhD in Education Leadership.

I want to teach in Finland and China for a few years before I come back the US.
