“My favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains is being a part of the Student Ambassador program, which allows me to stay involved in my community and college.”

Academic Program: Associate of Arts in General Studies

Hometown: West Plains, Missouri

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?

I chose to attend Missouri State-West Plains because it will allow me to complete my prerequisites to further my education while using my A+ scholarship. Attending here allows me to commute from home and continue working to save my money.

How would you describe your experience here?

I love the fact that there are so many resources for me to use. Before I was a student, I didn’t realize there was a writing lab to help students with their papers. I have found this resource very helpful because I can easily get a second opinion on my paper before turning it in. I also did not know there were so many student organizations. I thought there were only a couple, but there are so many more than that. There is a club out there for everyone!

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?

My favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains is being a part of the Student Ambassador program, which allows me to stay involved in my community and college.

What has been your favorite course?

My favorite course this semester would be Biomedical Sciences (BMS 110). I feel like I have learned so much from the coursework and laboratories, which will help me in future courses. Some courses like anatomy, physiology and microbiology are required for the dental hygiene program. BMS 110 is required before you can take those courses, so this really helps me get a grasp on what I will be learning next semester!

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?

The faculty and staff have been exceptionally helpful to me as a freshman in college. My professors have always responded to my emails and have been very clear about the instructions for my assignments.

How did you choose your major?

While exploring different jobs during my last few years of high school, I concluded that anything teeth or mouth related sounded super cool. I decided to job shadow a local dental hygienist, and from there I knew that I wanted to become one!

What have you learned from the registration and records office that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?

Talking to the staff has taught me not to be afraid to discuss the classes I am wanting to take with them and the best options for those classes.

What are your plans after graduation?

After earning my prerequisites, I would like to further my education at Ozarks Technical Community College to become a dental hygienist. Then, I would like to earn my bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.
