“My experience here has been the most fun I’ve had in a long time!”

Academic Program: AAS Business w/option of Accounting

Hometown: I was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, but grew up in Ash Flat, Arkansas.

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?

I worked for Regal Beloit here in West Plains when it shut down. We were given an option of having our college paid for due to our jobs going overseas. Since I have a child in school and couldn’t uproot my family, I chose to go MSU-WP.

How would you describe your experience here?

It has been the most fun I’ve had in a long time. My self esteem has gone through the roof, to see myself going through this and making good grades after being out of high school for 24 years.

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?

Learning from the kids in college has been so much fun! They are teaching right along with my professors. My professors have been a huge help to me when I’ve struggled with an assignment.

What has been your favorite course?

Probably a tie between Student Success (IDS 110) and Survey of U.S. History Since 1877 (HST 122). Both professors have made those classes fun and easy to learn from.

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?

They are so willing to help you if you are struggling with something. I have anxiety, and their wiliness to help has really made me stay calm.

How did you choose your major?

When I registered, I told them I wanted to be smarter in computers and math, so this was the best option for me. I also have a friend on the city council, and she said that businesses here in town are always looking for someone with a business degree, so I knew I was on the right path to support my family.

What are your plans after graduation?

To find a higher paying job than I’ve had in the past and make my family proud. My son doesn’t want to go to college. It is my hope that, by me going to college, he will want to go eventually.
