MSU-WP officials to host 2 modified commencement ceremonies May 15

The ceremonies will take place at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

2021 April 28 by University Communications

Officials at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) will recognize graduates at two modified traditional ceremonies May 15 at the West Plains Civic Center.

The ceremonies will take place at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. in the civic center arena. Missouri State University System President Clif Smart will be the featured speaker at both ceremonies.

To accommodate the continuing impact of the coronavirus pandemic and to protect all involved, university officials will limit the capacity of participants and visitors allowed for each ceremony. Participants and guests also will be physically distanced and masked, officials said.

Each graduate can invite up to 10 guests. If guests do not have a mask, one will be provided as they enter the arena, officials said.

Degrees recognized at each ceremony

The ceremonies have been divided based on the degree being awarded. Graduates attending the 9 a.m. event will receive the following degrees:

  • Associate of Arts in General Studies
  • Associate of Arts in Teaching
  • Associate of Arts in Health Professions

Graduates attending the 12 p.m. ceremony include those receiving the following degrees:

  • Associate of Arts in Criminology
  • Associate of Arts in Child and Family Development
  • Associate of Science in Agriculture
  • Associate of Science in Business
  • Associate of Science in Nursing
  • Associate of Science in Pre-Engineering
  • Associate of Science in Technology
  • Associate of Applied Science in Agriculture
  • Associate of Applied Science in Business
  • Associate of Applied Science in Child and Family Development
  • Associate of Applied Science in Computer Graphics and Programming
  • Associate of Applied Science in Enology
  • Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology
  • Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement
  • Associate of Applied Science in Viticulture
  • Missouri State University-Springfield bachelor’s and master’s degrees

2019-2020 graduates included

Graduates from the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years will be included in both ceremonies. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2019-2020 graduates took part in a virtual ceremony in August 2020. To give these students the opportunity to experience this rite of passage in a more traditional setting, university officials have invited them to participate in this year’s in-person event, as well.
