Spotlight: Evan Stewart

“The smaller classrooms allow me to get closer to the professors and faculty, and gets me the help every student should have”

Name: Evan Stewart

Academic Program:  Associate of Arts in Health Professions – Physical Therapy

What is your hometown?

West Plains, Missouri

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?

The A+ Scholarship was difficult to pass up. Using it for two years has saved me a lot money. I also grew up in the area, so being able to stay close to home with family helped.

How would you describe your experience here?

My experience at MSU-West Plains has been tremendous! The smaller classrooms allow me to get closer to the professors and faculty, and gets me the help every student should have. Plus, I must give a shout out to each professor and faculty member. They are courteous and helpful, and they’ve helped me so much.

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?

The smaller classroom sizes have been one of my favorite things because of the one-on-one help professors give. I’ve also loved the benefits I have as a student, like playing basketball and the recreation center, and using the math tutoring lab, the writing lab, the library, and so many other benefits. This little campus makes me feel like I’m in a family.

What has been your favorite course?

My favorite course has been Biomedical Sciences. I’ve enjoyed it because it’s one of those classes that can be challenging. With each lab experiment we’ve conducted, every question answered is like having to solve a puzzle, and it makes me think more and challenge myself.

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?

They’ve helped me reach the point where I’m at now. They’ve given me so many wonderful opportunities to improve myself as a student and person for the future, and I’m grateful for their generous help.

How did you choose your major?

Sophomore year of high school, I was given an assignment to job shadow someone. I was already close friends with a physical therapist who allowed me to understand what it was like. Since then, I’ve been hooked in wanting to help people improve their physical wellbeing and the feeling of accomplishment at seeing their improvements.

What have you learned from the allied health program that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?

I’ve learned to apply theoretical understandings and use them to better my knowledge in the field I want to go into. There is so much more to learn, and I’ve only scratched the surface.

What are your plans after graduation?

After this year, I plan to transfer to Missouri State in Springfield to finish my degree in physical therapy.
