Celebrate Valentine’s Day this year by attending The Cubanisms in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at the West Plains Civic Center theater.
The performance is being hosted by the University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP). Tickets are $10 each and available through the civic center box office, 110 St. Louis St.
Who are The Cubanisms?
Formed in 2016 in Kansas City, The Cubanisms offer a fun, diverse romp through the evolution of Cuban music, from its African origins through more modern musical styles such as rumba, bolero and salsa, organizers said.
The band’s music reflects the richness that comes from the experience of its members and its Anglo-Saxon, Mexican and Brazilian roots, according to the band’s website, CubanismsBand.com. Its diversity also comes from its repertoire, which includes music featuring three different languages – Spanish, Portuguese and English.
“It’s such a treat to have a group come to town that has so thoughtfully put together a performance of live music and a celebration of culture and heritage,” said U/CP Theater and Events Coordinator Hannah Salvesen.
The Cubanisms have performed internationally at the Jazz Plaza International Festival in Havana, Cuba, and they have been nominated as Best Local Band in Kansas City several years in a row.
“Bringing The Cubanisms to town is a timely opportunity,” she added. “What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with an award-winning band performing music with a romantic Latin spin?”
