Board approves tuition, fees for 2022-2023 academic year

New housing fees also set.

2022 April 21 by University Communications

The Missouri State University Board of Governors Executive Committee yesterday, April 20, approved increases in tuition and fees for the 2022-2023 academic year at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP).

Basic tuition for in-state students will go up $5, from $136 to $141 per credit hour, a 3.7% increase.

Out-of-state students will pay $282 per credit hour in basic tuition for FY2023. This is a $10 increase over last year’s $272 per credit hour rate.

“We understand the impact tuition increases have on our students, and we carefully weigh those impacts when we consider the needs of our campus and the costs of maintaining the quality of our programs,” MSU-WP Chancellor Dennis Lancaster said. “Our goal every year is to keep tuition affordable for our students, but sometimes adjustments are needed to address the inflationary costs for operations, and this is one of those years.”

Lancaster noted that increased expenses for the campus include office and custodial supplies, utilities, campuswide insurance and the university’s MOSERS retirement plan contributions.

Other fee increases

Other fee increases were approved today, as well.

  • Dual credit fees will go from $68 to $70 per credit hour.
  • Dual enrollment charges will go from $85 to $88 per credit hour.
  • Online course fees will go from $166 to $171 per credit hour.
  • Nursing fees will go from $182 to $187 per credit hour for in-state students and from $364 to $374 for out-of-state students.
  • A program fee of $3,000 per semester was set for students who are selected to participate in the new Autism Support Can Empower New Directions (ASCEND) Program.  ASCEND will provide additional support for students who have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. Program fees will be utilized to aid in the delivery of needed support services.

New housing fees

Students living in the Grizzly House will see a 3.5% fee increase this year. They will pay a total of $6,500 to live in the residence hall for the fall and spring semesters. Last year, they paid $6,278.

Students living in the Grizzly Lofts will see a fee increase of less than 1% this year. They will pay a total of $7,000 to live in the residence hall for the fall and spring semesters. Last year, they paid $6,950.

Housing fees at both facilities include a 19-meal-per-week plan.
