2022 October 21 by University Communications

Officials at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) and with the West Plains Council on the Arts (WPCA) invite everyone to attend the Community Messiah Sing at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the West Plains Civic Center, 110 St. Louis St., in West Plains.

Directed by Larry Dame, the performance promises to be a wonderful start to the holiday season, organizers said.

Admission is free with open seating; no reservations are required. Non-singers are welcome to come and enjoy the music, organizers said.

The vocalists and choruses

Lead vocalists include soprano Sylvia Hershenson, alto Brianna Adams Link, tenor Jordan Hall and bass Miles McWilliams. Accompanist will be Becky Quimby.

The Christmas portion of Handel’s “Messiah,” using the G. Schirmer score, will be performed. Audience members are encouraged to sing along with the vocalists to the following favorite “Messiah” choruses:

  • And the Glory of the Lord
  • And He Shall Purify
  • O Thou that Tellest Good Tidings to Zion
  • For Unto Us a Child is Born
  • Glory to God
  • Hallelujah!

Those who are interested in participating in the chorus can obtain practice CDs and scores through MSU-WP’s University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department. Call 417-255-7966 to learn more.

Partial funding for this is provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.

For more information about the event, call the U/CP office at 417-255-7966 or visit WP.MissouriState.edu/UCP.
