“I’ve had the time of my life.”
Name: Spencer Spreutels
Academic Program: Associate of Applied Science in Computer Graphics and Programming
What is your hometown? Koshkonong, MO
Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains? It was close to home, I knew people here, I was offered jobs here, and there was an esports team being made.
How would you describe your experience here? Very positive. All of the students and professors are awesome, and I made friends here immediately. The classes are fun to go to as well, so that’s always a plus.
What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains? The community. I feel like everyone is friends even if they’ve never met. I’ve never run into anyone who had an issue with someone else. I also love being a part of our esports team here; Coaches (Alex) Pinnon and CJ (Collins) make everyone feel at home.
What has been your favorite course? And why? Graphics Programming, which is taught by Jacob Poulette, is easily my favorite course here at Missouri State-West Plains. I like coding, I like graphic design, and I like games, so what’s a better course for me? Professor Poulette (who is also my neighbor) is an awesome teacher and is super fun to be around.
How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains? I think it’s safe to say that they have truly paved my way through college. Some had job offers for me, some had advice, some helped me through assignments. All these staff members were kind and helpful.
How did you choose your major? I had liked graphic design for a very long time, and when I learned that Missouri State-West Plains had a computer graphics and programming degree, I jumped for it.
What have you learned from the computer graphics and programming department that will help you succeed in your education, career or life? I’ve learned a lot of skills in graphic design and coding, as well as 3D modeling with animation. I use these skills almost every day.
As a first-generation college student, what are some challenges you have faced? None, I’ve had the time of my life.
What are your plans after graduation? To continue in the line of work I currently have going for me and begin graphic design for businesses and companies.
