“The classes I am in feel like family and each professor has been nothing but kind to me.”
Name: Jordyn Sigman
Academic Program: Associate of Arts in Teaching
What is your hometown? West Plains, MO
Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains? I currently work to put myself through college, so this was the closest and most affordable option with the degree I was pursuing. It also offers Springfield classes on campus for the degree I am seeking so I do not have to travel to Springfield to get my degree.
How would you describe your experience here? It is very welcoming. The classes I am in feel like family and each professor has been nothing but kind to me.
What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains? There are many experiences to have on and off campus. It is a supportive environment, and I love how there are evening classes available for those unable to attend morning classes.
What has been your favorite course, and why? My favorite course so far is Literature for Children and Young Adults (ENG 234). It involves a lot of children’s literature and reading comprehension, which is something I have always enjoyed. It makes me think about some of my favorite books more in depth.
How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains? They have been very understanding of my work schedule and have helped me work around schedule issues. They have been extremely helpful with finding my classes and answering questions about the college experience.
How did you choose your major? I have always wanted to become a teacher. My family has produced several teachers and I want to shape the minds of the future generations.
What have you learned from MSU-WP that will help you succeed in your education, career or life? The AAT (Associate of Arts in Teaching) Department has been holding several job fairs for students to get their foot in the door of several school districts. I have learned new interview skills, many notetaking and stress relief skills, and even how to balance school and work.
What are your plans after graduation? I plan to test into English or history at the middle school and high school level and apply to school districts to educate young minds.
