“Everyone I have met has been amazing!”

2024 July 23 by University Communications

Name: Draven Graves

Academic Program: General Studies

What is your hometown? St. Martin, MS

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains? I choose to attend MSU-WP for the smaller community feel and affordability.

How would you describe your experience here? Overall, my experience here at MSU-WP has been very positive. The professors are all amazing at what they do, and there is always something to do or people to meet.

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains? My favorite thing about MSU-WP is the people. From instructors, to classmates, to coworkers, everyone I have met has been amazing.

What has been your favorite course, and why? One of my favorite courses was Introduction to Philosophy. It was the first time I ever left a class feeling like I had learned something that would affect my everyday life in an impactful way.

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains? Every staff member has given their all to help me whenever possible. Every staff member I have met always makes me feel safe to ask questions or chat. Leaders in the student life and student services departments are always open to and even encourage constructive criticism to enable them to make our experiences here as good as possible. Every instructor or professor I have had has been amazing at what they do.

How did you choose your major? My original plan has not been panning out, so I have decided to major in general education while I continue to decide what my steps are after MSU-WP.

What have you learned at Missouri State-West Plains that will help you succeed in your education, career or life? The William and Virginia Darr Honors Program has helped me apply my education and the things I learn in the classroom to everyday life. Through it, I learned more about how the world works as well as ethics and similar ideas.

What are your plans after graduation? That is a good question, one I do not have a concrete answer to yet. Most likely go to MSU in Springfield to get a master’s in history.
