The Missouri Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Missouri State University (MSU) in Springfield is joining forces with the Ozarks Small Business Incubator (OzSBI) and the Greater West Plains Area Chamber of Commerce to host the Early-Stage Small Business Boot Camp Sept. 24 through Nov. 12.
The eight-week workshop will help entrepreneurs and aspiring small business owners look at all aspects of their business, explore the feasibility of a new business venture and learn how to develop a viable business model, organizers said.
“This program is so impactful to our participants as they navigate how to start and grow their business,” said Sandra Smart, business consultant and technology and commercialization specialist at the Missouri SBDC at MSU.
What you’ll learn
During the fast-paced, interactive, fun and energizing program, attendees will discover the best practices, talk through real-life examples and learn about valuable local resources designed to help small businesses grow.
Participants will receive ongoing coaching and mentoring to develop a growth plan and financial budget by the end of the program. Guest speakers and visiting entrepreneurs will bring their real-word experience to make the program topics come alive, organizers said.
“What sets the program apart from others is that we don’t just talk about these things, we connect participants with local resources and encourage them to work through their business plans and financial projections during the sessions,” Smart explained.
More about the program
Since December 2023, 130 entrepreneurs across the southern part of the state have successfully graduated from the program, she noted.
The program was developed by the Missouri SBDC with funding from US Bank. It is powered by the Southern Missouri Innovation Network(Innovate SOMO), MSU’s efactory partnership with codefi. Innovate SOMO’s mission is to open up pathways for greater earning potential and to invigorate the statewide economy. The boot camps are an essential piece to making that happen, organizers said.
Each session of the Early-Stage Small Business Boot Camp in West Plains will meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at OzSBI, 408 Washington Ave., in West Plains. Thanks to grant funding through the Southern Missouri Innovation Network (Innovate SOMO), the program is being offered at no cost. Pre-registration is required, however, and seating is limited.
