“There is a warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere at Missouri State-West Plains.”

Name: Melia Wiehe

Academic Program: Associate of Science in Business

What is your hometown? West Plains, MO

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?  It is close to home, and I love the community here.

How would you describe your experience here?  My experience at MSU-WP has been very positive. I have enjoyed getting to know the people, having new experiences, and getting involved on campus through SGA (Student Government Association), CCH (Christian Campus House), and other campus activities and organizations.

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?  My favorite thing about MSU-WP is the community. There is a warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere at Missouri State-West Plains, and if you take the time to invest in the people, it’s not hard to feel at home.

What has been your favorite course? And why?  So far, my favorite course has been COM 115, Public Speaking. I love the way Professor Phillips structured his class. The learning was very hands-on, and by the end of the semester, I had gained a lot of skills, knowledge and friends.

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?  The faculty and staff have helped me by answering questions, offering support, and sharing knowledge with me during my time at MSU-WP.

How did you choose your major?  I want to start a business in professional photography and videography. I decided to major in business and minor in photography to help me know how to run a business and widen my skillset in photography and media.

What have you learned from the communications department that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?  From the communications department, I have learned how to work efficiently, under time pressure, in a professional setting. I have also learned many new skills in photography, videography and media that will help me as I continue down the path of growing a business in photography.

What are your plans after graduation?  After graduation from MSU-WP, I plan to transfer to MSU in Springfield and get a business degree online while I travel full time for a music ministry opportunity.
