Student Spotlight: Jayanna Draper

2025 September 23 by Drew Clark

“My favorite thing is the community. I am uplifted by a multitude of individuals each day. I feel like I belong on this campus.”

Name:  Jayanna Draper

Academic Program: Associate of Arts in Health Professions

What is your hometown? Lynchburg, MO

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?  I chose Missouri State-West Plains because the personal tour I received was super impactful. I was informed of the low tuition cost and easy ways to get involved on campus and I was sold.

How would you describe your experience here? My experience at MSU-WP has been nothing but the best. The small town campus feel and abundance of student organizations have made me comfortable and feel right at home. I have truly loved being a part of this campus.

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?  My favorite thing is the community. I am uplifted by a multitude of individuals each day. I feel like I belong on this campus.

What has been your favorite course? And why?  Easily Honors 150! The course was an extra one that I was willing to take and although it was challenging, it was an amazing experience, thanks to the insight I gained from Dr. Dennis Lancaster. I will value the wisdom I gained from that class forever.

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?  Faculty and staff have welcomed me with open arms. Every instructor, chancellor and coordinator has reserved time to help me from day one. I appreciate the times when I can stop and hold conversations with faculty and staff members while I am on campus.

How did you choose your major?  I came into college unsure of what major so I began with the general studies degree to explore options. I ultimately settled on the decision to be a Sonographer, so Health Professions met that fit.

What have you learned from student organizations you’re involved in that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?  Being actively involved has taught me a ton! The student ambassador program has taught me to welcome all individuals with a smile. The Honors Program has lended me an education I can depend on and reaffirmed my beliefs. Being a Resident Assistant has been a blessing as I am able to help guide my peers to be accountable. Lastly, the Christian Campus House community encourages me daily to stand firm in my faith.

What are your plans after graduation?  My plans are to continue my education in Diagnostic Sonography, begin and family and glorify God wherever I land.
