University officials at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) have announced the appointment of Dasha Russell as dean of career and technical education.

The dean of career and technical education oversees agriculture, business, computer science, engineering, and technology programs.

Russell’s responsibilities will include faculty and department head recruitment and development, program development and review, student advisement, division budgeting, faculty evaluation, and support of the division’s teaching, research and service activities.

“We are pleased to welcome Dasha as the dean of career and technical education. She brings a strong understanding of Missouri State University-West Plains, a proven record of academic leadership and a deep commitment to student success,” said Michael Orf, MSU-WP vice chancellor of academic affairs.

Russell has been a member of the MSU-WP faculty since 2015, when she began as an instructor of accounting. In 2018, she became an assistant professor of accounting. She has served as program coordinator of business since January 2024 and associate dean of career and technical education since August 2025.

“Throughout her career, Dasha has demonstrated a willingness to serve wherever needed, contributing to numerous campus committees and initiatives that have strengthened our institution and advanced our mission,” Orf said. “Her work as a faculty member, program coordinator and associate dean has been marked by thoughtful collaboration, innovation and a focus on continuous improvement.”

Russell said she is excited about the opportunity to expand opportunities for students.

“The applied science and technology division is an interesting part of the university, offering both transfer pathways and workforce opportunities,” she said. “I have gotten to know the needs of our students through my work as a faculty member since 2015. I am beyond excited to expand my focus to the entire division in this leadership position.”

Russell earned a Master of Accountancy from Missouri State University in 2009 and a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from Missouri State University in 2008.

Before joining MSU-WP, she worked as an accountant for Northwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative Inc. in Salem, Arkansas, and Schultz, Wood & Rapp P.C. in West Plains.

Russell also dedicates time to the community through her work as assistant stage manager and prop designer for the Children’s Ballet of the Ozarks.
