MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY-West Plains students William Hatcher, left, West Plains, and Greg Phipps, Willow Springs, both of whom are veterans of the armed services, demonstrate how to properly fold the United States flag as part of a community service project for Connie Yates’ College Reading and Study Skills (IDS 150) class on Veterans Day Nov. 11. The veterans conducted the demonstration to members of Sylvia Hershenson’s third grade class at West Plains Elementary School during a visit to the Garnett Library. Hatcher and Phipps discussed the importance of Veterans Day and answered questions from the students. Following the demonstration, the students attended the annual Veterans Day Parade. Hatcher was a Sergeant E5 in Alpha Troop of the 710th Cavalry in the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas, at the time of his discharge. Phipps was a Corporal in the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejune in Jacksonville, N.C., at the time of his discharge. (Missouri State-West Plains Photo)
