Grizzlies stay close to home to sign 2nd recruit for 2018 volleyball season

2018 April 12 by University Communications

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The Grizzly Volleyball team at Missouri State University-West Plains didn’t go far to sign its second recruit for the 2018 season.

Kelly Wiedemann, daughter of Grizzly Volleyball Head Coach Paula Wiedemann, has signed a letter of intent to play for the Grizzlies beginning this fall.

The 5-foot, 9-inch outside/right side attacker averaged 4.71 kills and 3.26 digs per set during her senior season at West Plains High School.

She also was an honorable mention Missouri Class 4A All-District honoree and a first team All-Ozark Conference honoree in 2017, and a second team All-Ozark Conference honoree in 2016.

She was named academic all-conference each year during her high school career, and she was named to the 2017 Missouri Class 4A Academic All-State Team.

She also received Ozone Sports’ “Hammer of the Week” honors for the week of Sept. 28, 2017.

“Kelly did a good job coming to this decision. She went on multiple visits to other colleges and universities and realized there are good opportunities academically and athletically moving forward at Missouri State-West Plains,” Paula Wiedemann said.

“She’s versatile, a good six rotation player and she continues to push herself to improve. She’s grown up around the game, so she has a high volleyball IQ, and she’s a good teammate on the court. I’m really looking forward to working with her at this level, and she is excited to see where it takes her.”
