A look at south-central Missouri’s African American history will be the topic of the Nov. 9 meeting of the Friends of the Garnett Library.
Dr. Jason McCollom, assistant professor of history at Missouri State University-West Plains, will provide a sketch of the African American history of the West Plains area. From the settlement period in the late 19th century through the era of Jim Crow in the 20th century, his presentation will look at the central figures and major themes that shaped the region’s African American past.
The luncheon and meeting will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in rooms 104 and 105 on the lower level of the Lybyer Technology Center. Parking is available in the lot off Cass Avenue on the north side of the building.
Cost of the meal is $10, payable at the door. Those wishing to eat should make a reservation by calling 417-255-7940 or emailing FriendsofGarnettLibrary@MissouriState.edu by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7.
