WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Officials with The Missouri State University Department of Theatre and Dance in Springfield will present “Totally RED!” at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the West Plains Civic Center theater.
Tickets are $5 for general admission seating and can be purchased at the civic center box office from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Children age 13 and under will be admitted free. The Missouri State University-West Plains University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department is sponsoring this production.
“We are looking forward to having members of the Missouri State University Theater and Dance Department back to the West Plains Civic Center theater with their rendition of ‘Totally RED!’,” said U/CP Director Brenda Malkowski. “It is always enjoyable to watch productions performed by such a fantastic group of talented students.”
With words, music and dramatizaton by Dinah Toups and lyrics and music by Barbara Walker, this children’s musical features the beloved fairy tale characters of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf as you’ve never seen them, according to the production’s director, Assistant Professor of Theatre Dr. Telore Davies. The familiar story of wit and deception is retold in several styles, ranging from storybook to melodrama, from 1680s Elizabethan to 1980s hip hop, and with a little American mucial theater thrown in.
“With a street-smart heroine and a ravenous poser on the loose, this humorous new twist on the beloved fairy tale is anything but Grimm!,” Davies said.
