MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY-West Plains will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2013, and members of the honorary steering committee recently met at Kellett Hall to help make plans for the impending celebration. The campus first opened its doors to 111 students on Sept. 16, 1963 and held evening classes at West Plains High School. Members of the honorary committee, several of whom have strong ties to the campus, will help provide inspiration, direction and vision for the events that are being planned to commemorate this half century mark. Committee members are, front row from left, Karyn Vaughan, Peggy Kissinger, Allison Smith and Carol Silvey, all of West Plains. Second row: Dr. Fred Czerwonka, West Plains; Dr. Marvin O. Looney, Pontiac; and Dr. Marvin Fowler and Marvin Green, both of West Plains. Third row: Bob Manning, Mary Sheid and David M. Gohn, all of West Plains. Back row: Joe Paul Evans and Tom Marhefka, both of West Plains. (Missouri State-West Plains Photo)
